We want you to be happy with your Breed Right membership. This page explains what the membership costs, how to cancel it, and when you get your money back. It forms part of our Terms of use. Nothing here reduces your legal rights as a consumer; if anything in this policy differs from your legal rights, your legal rights win.
1. Who we are
This website, breedright.co.uk (the “Site”), is operated by Whelpy Ltd. References to “we”, “us” and “our” in this policy are to Whelpy Ltd. References to “you” and “your” are to the person holding a Breed Right account.

2. What the membership costs and what it includes
There are two ways to use Breed Right, and it is worth understanding the difference because only one of them involves a payment:
- (a) A free account. Browsing, enquiring about a stud dog or a litter, and keeping a kennel profile. It costs nothing, it does not renew, and there is nothing to cancel. A free account does not include listings.
- (b) The Breeder membership. £45.00 a year, taken as a single payment, which lets you publish stud dogs and litters. That is the total you pay. We are not registered for VAT, so no VAT is charged and no VAT invoice is issued.
Paying does not change what we check. Every stud dog must still be on the Royal Kennel Club Breed Register and pass our check before it goes live, and a membership never skips that. What our checks do and do not mean is explained on our verification page.
Renewal: Renews automatically every year at £45.00 until you cancel. We email you twice before every payment — about 30 days before and again about 7 days before — with the amount, the date and how to cancel. Cancel any time before the renewal date and you will not be charged again.
Founding breeders: While the founding breeders offer is open, the first 25 breeders to join get their first year free. It is for accounts that have never held a paid membership, and it ends by itself when the places are gone. If you joined under the founding breeders offer, nothing is charged for your first year. Your first payment of £45.00 is taken 365 days after the day you joined — the exact date is shown at checkout, on your billing page and in your confirmation email — and your membership then renews automatically every year at £45.00 until you cancel. We email you twice before that first payment, about 30 days and again about 7 days before it. Cancel at any time before your first payment date and no payment is ever taken; there is nothing to refund because nothing has been paid. Your 14-day right to cancel applies exactly as it does to any membership. Once a payment has been taken, the ordinary renewal, cancellation and refund terms apply to it — including a full refund if you cancel within 14 days of that payment.
3. When your contract starts, and starting straight away
Your contract with us starts when your payment is confirmed and your membership is applied to your account. We then send you a confirmation email setting out what you have bought, when it renews, and your right to cancel.
We ask you to tick a box before you pay. The box confirms that you want your membership to begin immediately, inside the 14-day cancellation period. If you then cancel inside those days you still get everything you paid back. The box is not ticked for you, and the payment will not go through without it. We record the date and time you ticked it, so that if a cancellation is ever disputed there is a dated record of what was agreed.
This is required by regulation 36(1) of the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 (“the 2013 Regulations”). Under regulation 36(6), if we had begun your membership without that express request, we could not charge you anything at all for the period before you cancelled.
4. Your 14-day right to change your mind
If you are a consumer, you have a legal right under regulation 29 of the 2013 Regulations to cancel your membership within 14 days, without giving a reason.
- Cancellation period: 14 days beginning the day after the day you join. Because a membership is a service and not a physical product, the period runs from the day the contract is made, not from any delivery (regulation 30). Every later payment — each yearly renewal, and a founding breeder’s first payment after the free year — gives you the same 14 days again: see section 8.
- What you get back: You have 14 days after every payment — when you join and after each renewal — to change your mind. Cancel within 14 days of a payment and we refund that payment in full. Press Cancel membership on your billing page inside those 14 days and it ends your membership and refunds you automatically. You do not have to give a reason.
- How to cancel: tell us in a clear statement within the 14 days, using any of the routes in section 6. You may use the model cancellation form at the end of this page, but you do not have to (regulation 32).
- Your refund: we will refund you without undue delay and in any event within 14 days of the day you tell us you are cancelling, using the same payment method you paid with, and we will not charge you a fee for it (regulation 34).
Pressing Cancel membership inside the 14 days refunds you automatically. It ends your membership straight away and refunds the payment to the card you paid with — you do not need to email us as well. The billing page tells you the amount there and then, and we email you a confirmation saying what was refunded. If you cancel by email or by post instead, we do exactly the same by hand and confirm it by email.
Your listings come down when the membership ends. Nothing is deleted: your dogs, photos, health records and enquiry history stay exactly as you left them, and they go straight back up if you rejoin.
If you joined as a founding breeder, nothing is paid during your first year, so cancelling within the 14 days — or at any time before your first payment date — means nothing is charged and there is nothing to refund. The right itself is exactly as above.
5. When the 14-day right is lost
The right to cancel a service is lost once the service has been fully performed. Under the 2013 Regulations (regulations 28 and 36), that happens where performance began at your express request and with your acknowledgement that the right would be lost once we had fully performed.
In practice this will not affect you. A membership runs for a full year, so we cannot possibly have fully performed it within the first 14 days. You should therefore expect to keep your right to cancel for the whole of that period. This does not affect your statutory rights.
6. How to cancel
Cancelling is a button on your own billing page, not a request to us. You do not need to ask permission, give a reason, or wait for anyone to reply.
- On your billing page (the quickest route). Sign in, open Billing and membership (from your account page, choose Manage billing), and under Manage press Cancel membership. The page confirms the date your membership will end, and we email you straight away with that date and whether a refund has been made, and how much.
- By email. Email hello@breedright.co.uk from the email address on your account, with the words Cancel my membership. We will cancel it and confirm by reply.
- By post or by form. Send us the model cancellation form at the end of this page, or any other clear statement, to the address in section 1.
Changed your mind about cancelling? While your paid year is still running, a Keep my membership button appears on the same billing page. Pressing it puts everything back as it was, and your membership renews as normal.
Once card payments are switched on, you will also be able to update your card and download your invoices through our payment provider’s own secure portal, reached from the same page.
7. What happens to your listings when you cancel
Cancel any time from your billing page, or by emailing hello@breedright.co.uk. Cancelling stops the next renewal — your membership and your listings stay live until the end of the year you have paid for, and no further payment is taken.
When the paid year does run out, your account moves to the free tier and your listings are hidden. Nothing is deleted. Your dogs, photos, health records and enquiry history are kept as they are, and everything reappears if you rejoin. We email you when this happens so that it is never a surprise.
If you have a complimentary membership you did not pay for, there is no paid period to see out. Cancelling ends it straight away and hides your listings. Again, nothing is deleted.
8. Renewals, and cancelling after the 14 days
Every renewal comes with 14 days to change your mind. When your membership renews and the payment is taken — and when a founding breeder’s first payment is taken at the end of the free year — you have 14 days from that payment to cancel and have it refunded in full, exactly as when you first joined. Press Cancel membership on your billing page inside those days and it ends your membership and refunds you automatically. We email you on the day the payment is taken, saying the dates your 14 days run from and to.
You can cancel at any time. Once the 14 days after your latest payment have passed, cancelling stops the next renewal and nothing further is taken from your card.
We do not refund the unused part of a membership year once the 14 days after its payment have passed. You keep your membership and your listings for the rest of the year you have already paid for, and we do not make a pro-rata refund of the months you have not used. This is our commercial policy rather than a legal rule, and we state it plainly so that nobody is surprised by it. It does not apply to the situations in sections 10 and 11, and it does not affect your statutory rights.
Founding breeders: during your free first year there is nothing to refund. Cancel at any time before your first payment date and no payment is taken. Once your first payment of £45.00 has been taken, you have 14 days to change your mind and have it refunded in full — and the same 14 days follow every yearly renewal after it. Press Cancel membership inside those 14 days and it ends your membership and refunds that payment automatically. After them, cancelling stops the next renewal: you keep your membership and your listings until the end of the year you have paid for, and we do not refund the unused part of it.
9. Renewals, reminders and price changes
- Automatic renewal: your membership renews on the same date each year unless you cancel first, and the payment is taken from the card you joined with. The full renewal terms are in section 2.
- The reminders are a promise, not a courtesy. We commit to emailing you twice before every payment: about 30 days before it, and again about 7 days before it — for every renewal, and before a founding breeder’s first payment. Each reminder tells you, first, that your membership renews and the payment is taken automatically; the amount and date of the payment; the amount and date of the payment after it; for a renewal, what you paid last time (a founding breeder’s first payment has no last time); and how to cancel, including that cancelling within 14 days after the payment gets you a full refund. We send them ourselves, from our own records, on a scheduled job, so they do not depend on our payment provider choosing to send a reminder.
- Price and feature changes: if we materially change what the membership costs or what it includes, we will tell you before your next renewal so that you can cancel before it is charged.
New rules for subscription contracts under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 are not yet in force; the Government has said they will start in January 2027. We have chosen to work to them now rather than waiting to be told to: two reminders before every payment, 14 days to change your mind after every payment, clear pre-contract information, self-service cancellation, and an email confirming every cancellation.
10. If a renewal payment fails
If a renewal payment fails, your listings stay live for 14 days while we retry your card — update your card in that time and everything carries on as normal. If the payment still has not gone through by then, your membership lapses: your listings are hidden — never deleted — and 7 days later we try your card one last time and, if that fails, the renewal is cancelled, so to list again you rejoin, and your listings come straight back when you do. If you cancel while a renewal payment is overdue, it can still be taken until those 14 days are up; if it is, you have 14 days from it to cancel for a full refund.
In other words, a failed card does not cost you your work. You keep 14 days to fix it, and we email you when it happens with the date your listings would come down. Update your card in that time and the payment goes through and your membership carries on; if the payment only goes through a little after that date, your listings come straight back up when it does. If it never goes through, the membership lapses and you rejoin to list again — your listings are still there, and come back as soon as you do. If a payment is taken in error, tell us and we will refund it in full.
11. If we suspend or end your membership
- Serious or deliberate breach. If we end your membership because you have seriously or deliberately broken our listing rules or our Terms of use, we do not refund the rest of the year. Advertising a litter you did not breed, misdescribing a dog or its health results, and trading without a licence you are required to hold are all examples.
- Suspension while we look into something. If we suspend your listings while we investigate a report and we then find no breach, we will add the days you lost to your membership or refund them, whichever you prefer.
- If we withdraw the service. If we close Breed Right, withdraw the membership, or end your membership for reasons of our own rather than anything you have done, we will refund the unused part of your year in proportion to the time remaining.
We will always tell you why, unless the law prevents us. You can ask us to look at the decision again by replying within 28 days, and we will review it and give you our reasons within 14 days.
12. If something goes wrong with the service
Under section 49 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, we must perform the membership service with reasonable care and skill. If we do not, sections 55 and 56 of that Act give you the right to ask us to put it right, and to a price reduction where putting it right is impossible or we do not do it within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to you.
If something is not working, email hello@breedright.co.uk with the email address on your account, what went wrong and when, and a screenshot if you have one. We will acknowledge it within 2 working days and reply properly within 14 days.
13. Nothing here reduces your legal rights
Nothing in this policy affects your legal rights as a consumer, and nothing in it is intended to limit any right you have that cannot be limited by law. For detailed information about your rights, contact your local Citizens Advice or Trading Standards office.
If we cannot resolve a complaint between us, we will tell you whether we are willing to use a certified alternative dispute resolution provider, and give you its details, as the Alternative Dispute Resolution for Consumer Disputes (Competent Authorities and Information) Regulations 2015 require.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service develops. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when it was most recently revised. The version in force on the day you join or renew is the one that applies to that membership year, and we will tell you before your next renewal about any material change.
